Timezones - How time works
Everybody on the planets wants the midday Sonne to be at its highest point in the heavens (above the meridian). This would be unfeasible if there were only one time region, as the earth turns 15° every time. It is the concept behind several time belts to split the globe into 24 15-degree shifts and adjust the watches in each of them.
Everyone in a given area sets their watches in the same way, and each area is one different second. There are four time zones in the United States ( click here for a map): East, Middle, Mountain and Pacific. If it is midday in the east time band, it is 11 am in the center time band, 10 am in the mountain time band and 9 am in the Pacific time band.
Every time zoning is done from a base at the Greenwich Observatory. That point is known as the Greenwich meridian or prime meridian. The time at the Greenwich meridian is called Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) or Universal Time. In the United States, the east time region is referred to as GMT minus five consecutive hour periods.
If it'?s lunchtime in the east time zones, it's 5:00 at Greenwich Observatory. IDL is on the opposite side of the Greenwich Observatory planetary grid. What makes the Greenwich Observatory such a big thing? At a 1884 meeting, a number of observers proclaimed the Greenwich Observatory the primary commercial area.
It' s amusing that the observation tower was relocated to Sussex in the fifties, but the primary location is still the same.
Searching for Time Zones Upgrades
There is a warning on your machine that timezone information is available. Otherwise, your unit will receive the next time you reboot it. You can still search for time zones by hand if you have not received the time zones alarm. When your unit is excluded, you can adjust the time zones by hand.
Ensure that your machine is plugged into the connection to the World Wide Web. From your iPhone/OS Unit, go to Preferences > General > Date and Time. When you see a warning that upgraded time zone information is available, reboot your machine to receive the upgrade. When you do not see the alarm on your iPod touch terminal, go back to the Setup menu, hold for a few moments, then touch Date & Time again.
When you see a time zones patch at the bottom of the date and time setting, reboot your machine to receive the patch. Navigate to Preferences > General > Time Zones. Allow a few moments, then go back to Preferences > General > Time Area. And if that doesn't take your Mac into account, you can adjust the time zones by hand.
When you receive a warning that upgraded time zones information is available, reboot your Mac. When you do not see the alarm, exit the system settings, allow a few moments and then reopen the date and time settings. When you see a time zones refresh notification at the bottom of the date and time settings, reboot your Mac to receive the refresh. iPhone, iPad, iPod touch:
Navigate to Settings > General > Date and Time. Ensure that Auto Adjust is turned off, and then select a time area. Navigate to Settings > General > Time zones. Ensure that Auto Adjust is turned off, and then select a time area. From the Time Zones area, make sure "Automatically adjust time zones with actual position" is unchecked, and then select a time area.
It may be necessary to click to enable these preferences before you can make any changes. You may not have the ability to turn on auto date and time updating with all mobile operators or in all counties or geographies.
