The Microsoft Expression Web Dynamic Web Template Dynamic Web template is an HTML-based copy of a Web page that you can make to contain adjustments, formats, and page items such as text, images, page layouts, style, and region of a Web page that can be changed. If you append a dynamic Web template to the pages of a Web site, this template determines the page layouts for these pages.

Any number of dynamic Web templates can be used in a Web site, and you can append a dynamic Web template to any number of pages. Dynamic Web Templates allow you to generate HTML pages that use the same layouts. As well as sharing a common design, you can make some areas in a template available for edit while at the same time blocking changes to other areas in that template.

That means you can allow others to append and modify contents without changing the page layouts and the template itself. In order to generate a Dynamic Web Template (DWT), begin with an empty HTML page and store it as a *.dwt document. Let's go with the flow and find out more.

Stage 1 - Open the index.html and choose the File menu option ? Save As.... which opens the Save As dialog. Choose the dynamic Web template (*.dwt) from the drop-down list Choose save as typ and switch the filename from the index to master.dwt and click Sustainable.

Stage 2 - Now you can see that a new master.dwt folder has been added to the folder listing. Let's make a new HTML page and name it index_2.html. Open the master.dwt and right-click the tag of the root page in the Design View or Code View. 3 - From the drop-down box, choose the Manage Editable Regions... option that opens the Editable Regions dialogue box.

4 - In the name of the area, enter a name for the area that you want to edit, and then click Append. If you want to be able to add further areas that can be edited, do this again. 5 - After you have added all areas that can be edited, click Exit. Go to the index_2.html and choose it from the folder listing.

6 - Go to the Format Setup screen and choose Dynamic Web Template ? Install Dynamic Web Template...., which opens the Install Dynamic Web Template dialogue box. 7 - Choose the dynamic Web template that is the master.dwt here and click the Open icon. Stage 8 - You will see that the same template is used for the index_2.html files.

You can also use the same template to any number of HTML pages you want to include in your website. On this page, you can only modify the section with the body contents. When you move the cursor to the other section, you will see that it is not edited and the cursor will also change to the crossed area.

Stage 10 - To see what it looks like, go to the File drop-down list and choose Preview in your web browser. Here you can see how it looks like.
