sspan class="mw-headline" id="History">History[edit] The most notable thing about the Free release was the young ages of the members of the band who gathered at Nag's Head on the night of April 19, 1968 at the intersection of York Road and Plough Road in Battersea, London, to practice and perform their first show. 13] Bassist Andy Fraser was 15 years old, leading guitarist Paul Kossoff was 17, and both Paul Rodgers and Simon Kirke were 18 years old.

In November of this year, after receiving the name Free from Alexis Korner, they made their first record Tons of Sobs for Island Records, and although it was published the following year, the record documented their first six month together and included a large portion of their early stage set's recording rendition.

At first Paul Kossoff and Simon Kirke became R&B buddies in the Black Cat Bones, but they wanted to go on. The singer Paul Rodgers sang with Brown Sugar while Paul Kossoff visited the Fickle Pickle, an R&B nightclub in London's Finsbury Park. Immediately he was amazed and asked if he could join Rodgers on stage.

Andy Fraser was suggested by Alexis Korner; at the youngest age of 15 Fraser had already played with John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers. Corner also gave the name " Free " to the new founded group. Rodgers then went on to sing with two of Queen's other three members (Brian May and Roger Taylor).

Queen + Paul Rodgers published their first recording The Cosmos Rocks in September 2008. The Rodgers also played Free and Bad Company tunes during the Queen tours, in additon to the Queen tradition and new cut tunes from their latest albums.
