GoDaddy's support for his Big Date Analysis group.

GoDaddy, with its web host and web domainname registry companies, records more than 13 TB of new, non-compressed information every day, everything from website traffic logging and user metering to customer web site administration and e-commerce stats. GoDaddy employees use all of this information to configurate product and customer service for the 14th edition.

Company employees also use the information for operational analysis to better serve customer needs. Until a few years ago, however, when GoDaddy employees wanted to get a little more involved with the processes, they often stored files in Microsoft Excel-tables. GoDaddy wanted to offer them something better, however, according to Sharon Graves, system admin at GoDaddy.

Today, the company provides on-line self-service analysis with Tableau as the main visualisation tools. Jomax Technologies was established as GoDaddy in 1997 and started its first website a year later. Until 2005, the company, which was re-named GoDaddy in 1999, had 2 million clients, 10 million domains registered and an $100 million turnover.

It went Public in 2015, when the company gained 4 million multinational clients. Until 2016 GoDaddy had made 1 billion dollars in booking and 1.8 billion dollars in sales. GoDaddy, Graves said, has a large dataplatform that encompasses Hadoop Hive, a retrieval and analytical dataroom system, Microsoft SQL, MySQL and Teradata Relational Databases Managerystems, Cassandra, an open SOA shared databases manager system, Apache Pig, a metadata processor, Apache Spark, a processor for clusters of computer beds, and third-party on-line analytical utilities such as Google Analytics. GoDaddy's Hadoop Hive, a metadata warehousing system for queries and analyses, is a major contributor to the company's portfolio of products and services.

In order to provide its employees with something better than spread sheets to view their information, GoDaddy 2013 Tableau Server, an enterprise-wide analytical tool for viewing, first for its BI teams and then for other internal company audiences, was deployed. Those powerful people, most of them with some enquiry skills and at least some contact with analytical measurements, were the first to set up their own somewhat restricted analytical work.

However, as so much information enters the company every single working day, GoDaddy had limited records of the origin of the information, how it was used and how some of the information was computed. "Those of our powerful endusers, who may not be very comfortable with the information, didn't know where to find the right information for their analysis, or if they knew where they were, they weren't sure how to use it to fulfill their needs," Graves says.

Analyzers spent a lot of patience trying to determine which areas to use in which source of information, and not enough patience to perform real, robust analyses. GoDaddy has intensified its efforts to help its products executives, enterprise end users, information professionals and other information professionals achieve better insight. Alation' Datacatalog, which strengthens large-scale data governance enhancements for self-service analytical and enables end-customers to get better insight without requiring engineering personnel to intervene.

Using automatic learner intelligence algorithm, Ariation inventories information and expands the contexts necessary to find, comprehend, and confidently access the information - a unique resource for an organization's information. We run on a Linux based servers and computer linked databases to learn "profiles" to be able to extract all GoDaddy information.

"Our information managers can use it to include extra detail to get a complete view of the information, its origin and proposed use, as well as examples of how our business uses the information," she says. Graves says it allows us to annotate certain information resources and let other analyzers know which information resource is the most wanted and which analyzer within GoDaddy's vast organisation knows the information best.

"A large part of the Meta information is collected by automatic learn in alation by reading logs and profiled on GoDaddy server," says Graves. An example of how people use this information is to monitor and understand how changes in website designs and workflow affect the consumer experiences. "When we see buyers exit the trial at a certain point, we can go in and check that stream to see if there is a better approach," Graves says.

It is a major enhancement over the GoDaddy experience, which ran across a number of different plattforms without a clearly delineated recording system. It has been duplicated to several sites with different accounting policies for handling. As GoDaddy has seen tremendous expansion and acquisition over the last 20 years, 10 of which have been takeovers over the last three years - among them the web service company Host Europe Group - it has been necessary to capture fast to enable pro-active analysis.

"It has not always made it possible to follow best practices," Graves says. "Because we had information on different plattforms, in different textures, that contained user-defined buisness policies. For this reason, our BI[team], unlike our analytical teams, has been spending a great deal of our attention on managing it. "Our task was to centralise our information, clearly delineate boundaries and make sure that our end consumers had appropriate access," she says.

Now that GoDaddy in-house endusers can perform much of their own off-the-shelf reports, the company's BI professionals have more free to make deeper cuts to information and add more value to work. If there is a spontaneous visitor spikes, for example, they can find out if this spikes is true, what is causing it, if there is a trouble in the net or on the site, or if it was just a big tag for the visitor to the site, Graves says.
