I will show you how to update WordPress. The Admin Dashboard allows you to update WordPress to a newer version. Describes how to manually update a WordPress plugin with SFTP/FTP. Learn how to update a WordPress plugin manually via WP-CLI. Note: This article does not apply to Secure WordPress.

For this reason, it is very important to keep your designs and plug-ins as up-to-date as possible, as upgrades usually include safety enhancements. Plug-ins and designs can be updated via the WordPress Administration window or you can update them by hand.

See below for details on both update methods: In order to update your plug-ins from the Administration window, perform the following steps: Login with your user name and your pass word in your WordPress admin window. Locate the Update links in the top-right corner of your admin area. When a number is displayed next to the Update links, it means that you have update available for installation.

It is strongly advised that you update your WordPress Core as soon as it becomes available. In order to update WordPress plug-ins by hand, you need an FTP programme. Hint: If you have acces to the Administration Control Panel, it is advisable to deactivate the plug-in in your Administration Control Panel first. In order to update your plug-in via FTP please proceed as follows:

Go to the /wp-content directory. Now open the plug-in-directory. Locate the plug-in you are upgrading. This can be in the root directory of the plug-in or in a subdirectory called accordingly. Substitute the plug-in files or folders with the upgraded plug-in files or folders you download. Your plug-in has been upgraded by hand.

In order to update WordPress topics by hand, you need an FTP programme. If you have full control of the admin window, we suggest that you first switch to a different topic in your admin window. If you want to update your design by FTP yourself, please complete these steps: Go to the /wp-content directory. Now open the topic directory.

Locate the topic you are refreshing. This can be in the primary topic directory or in a subdirectory that has the appropriate name. Substitute the topic filename or directory with the actualized topic filename or directory you just download. Update your design by hand.
