Updating Wordpress Theme

Manual update of WordPress, Themes & Plugins You may need to update your WordPress cores, themes, and plug-in documents by hand if you have restricted your site's access to certain types of information. Get the latest WordPress zipped from wordpress.org. Extract the data into a folder on your computer or into a seperate folder on your website. Disable all plug-ins on your WordPress page.

Navigate to the home folder of your website and remove your folders "wp-includes" and "wp-admin". Load (or copy) the new include folder and administrative folder from the new WordPress release that you unpacked into your website' root folder to substitute the folders you just deletes. Don't erase your wp-content folder or any of the subfolders in it.

In the new WordPress release, copy the WordPress file from the wp-content folder to your current wp-content folder. It overwrites all available data with the same name. Your other data remains in the wp-content. Copies all WordPress executables from the WordPress home folder ('/') of the new WordPress release that you have unpacked into your home folder (or the home folder of your WordPress installation).

It overwrites all your current data and copies new data as well. This will not affect your wp-config. php since WordPress is never deployed with a wp-config. php document. Check the wp-config-sample.php that is deployed with WordPress to see if new preferences have been added that you want to use or change.

After an automatic upgrade that fails, if you perform a manual upgrade, delete the . service from your WordPress home folder. Go to your WordPress administration page at /wp-admin/, where you may be asked to log in again. It may also be necessary to upgrade your data base and you will be asked if this is necessary.

You have now completed your upgrade and should be using the latest WordPress release. Save your WordPress page first if you haven't already done so. Please dowload a zipped archive of the plug-in you want to update. Usually you can find most plug-ins in the plug-ins' library, along with a shortcut to downloading the latest zipped files.

Unpack the plug-in on your computer. Creates a folder named'plugin-name' with all subfiles under it. You can use sFTP to remove the plug-in folder from the wp-content/plugins/folder on your website. Log in to your WordPress page. Navigate to the "Plugins" tab and check that the plug-in you have updated is the latest one.

Remember that if you use a custom design, you will loose all your customization if you just replace your design with a new one. If so, you will need to work with a development team to incorporate your changes into your new WordPress theme, rather than just overriding the old theme.

When you have not modified the topic of your choice and have only modified it via the WordPress web administration user area ( without modifying any of its files), you can proceed as follows: First, make a back-up of your WordPress page. Visit Appearance > Themes and make sure you are using the latest release of your theme. If possible, we strongly recommend that you upgrade via the WordPress web user area.

It may mean that you need to specify less restricted filename owners and privileges for your WordPress install. Disadvantage is that your web servers have the right to change your data - which can allow a computer to hack into the same thing. However, the advantage is significant because you can fix weaknesses through web interfaces and upgrade.
