A page layout determines the layout of each page layout. Pages include layout codes and web part areas that specify areas where designer can place web parts. Site layout allows you to specify the layout and layout of your website. Two general page layout styles are available:

You can use this paradigm to establish the page template tree and apply web part zoning without having to write or edit the page layout codes. Just build a page with a unique zoning, insert a layout web part, and then customize the desired layout using the web part property sheet or even directly on the Design page.
