Mr. Becker is also the founding member of the World Wide Web Foundation and is a senior scientist and owner of the 3Com Foundation chairs at the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL).

13 ][14] In 2011 he was appointed a member of the Ford Foundation Governing Committee. CERN was the biggest European hub in 1989, and Berners-Lee saw the possibility of connecting hyper text to the Internet: Berns-Lee rewrote his suggestion in March 1989 and re-distributed it in 1990.

33 ] He used similar concepts to the EQUIRE system to build the World Wide Web, for which he created and constructed the first web browsers. Mr Berners-Lee became a member of the advisory council of London-based Start-up State.com. 57 ] Since May 2012, Berners-Lee has been Chairman of the Open Data Institute,[58] which he established together with Nigel Shadbolt in 2012.

In 1990, Berners-Lee got married to Nancy Carlson, an US computer scientist, and also worked in Switzerland for the World Health Organization. Berners-Lee and Leith got engaged in the Chapel Royal, St James's Palace in London in 2014. Mr. Leith is Founder of the World Wide Web Foundation[74], a non-profit Berners-Lee foundation.
