Jet.com Launches E-commerce Platform for Food in New York City

The Walmart e-commerce affiliate Jet.com is preparing for same-day food deliveries in the New York area. Jet.com on Tuesday reconfirmed the company's plan to open an e-commerce fulfilment centre in New York's Bronx district this autumn. Hoboken, N.J., N.J.-based merchant, who rents the premises, said the establishment will handle orders for food, daily necessities and some general commodities.

"We have an established food supply facility that municipal clients already enjoyed, but this Bronx FC will allow us to make planned same-day and next-day deliveries to New York City this fall," said Jet.com spokesperson Meredith Klein in an email outline. According to Klein, the Bronx Execution Centre will only process orders from Jet.com.

Although the firm did not reveal the dimensions or other features of the establishment, it said it provided a means of expanding into urban marketplaces. But Walmart has already embarked on the road of e-commerce to reaching the profitable New Yorkers. In late May, the Jetblack Corporation introduced a new retailing services offering a concierge-like paradigm for on-line commerce through conversation commerce or the possibility to purchase via SMS, on-line chats orvoices.

Designed by Walmart Technology Inkubator Store No 8, Jetblack was introduced to a small extent in Manhattan and part of Brooklyn. Membership-only services allow shoppers to formulate almost any purchase desire - from gift items to home, clothing to healthcare and spa - and Jetblack finds the right product and delivers it the same or next tag at no surcharge.

Founded in early 2017, only a few month after Walmart completed its $3.3 billion takeover of Jet.com, and appointed Marc Lore, eTailer's founding and COO, as Walmart U.S. eCommerce' President and CEO, store no. 8 was launched in early 2017. Since Amazon.com spent $13.7 billion on the Whole Foods Market last August, Walmart has stepped up its e-commerce and omni-channel effort.

Together with its high-volume and retail rivals, the discount chain has expanded its on-line service and supply capability to counteract the inclusion of Amazon's highly acclaimed Amazon Primary Benefit programme with Whole Foods Point of Sales.
