Jimdo Domain name

Name of Jimdo Domain

Use of an existent domain with your Jimdo website You can use a domain that you have already acquired through an outside domain registration company with your Jimdo website. Link the domain, but keep it with your local domain name. Submit the domain to Jimdo. First, linking your domain is great if you appreciate full domain management power.

The majority of stand-alone hosters give you instant domain name recognition so you can make changes to your domain preferences at any point. External domain registration is also a good choice if you want to administer more than one domain for more than one site, even non-Jimdo sites, and want to keep them all in one place.

In addition, we suggest you connect your domain if for some reasons your domain does not comply with the domain transfers requirement (more on this later). The Jimdo domain transfers work great for those who want their domain and website in one place. Because your domain is part of your subscriptions to Jimdo, Business and Platinum, you don't have to worry about the renew payment when you move your domain to Jimdo.

Note that the whole transaction can take more than three workdays. Your Jimdo website can be used with any domain you already own that you have acquired through an outside registration agent. The connection of a domain involves two steps: Only after you have successfully finished both stages will your domain be correctly linked to your Jimdo site.

Notice that it can take up to 24 to 48 hrs until the changes take effect and your domain is fully interconnected. And if you've already registered for a Pro, Business, or Platinum site, sign in, open the menu, and go to Preferences > Areas & Email > Districts to create your domain by pressing the Create New Domain button:

If you click on'Add new domain', you will see two ways to create or join a domain. Choose the second choice to link your domain. Type your domain name, and then click Use Domain. When you have already enrolled this domain with another domain holder, you will be prompted to either submit your domain or link your domain.

Choose the'Connect my domain to Jimdo' checkbox. If you click on it, you will see the ways we recommend to link your domain to your Jimdo website. If you click on "Back to overview", you will see that your domain has already been added to your website. Now the next stage is to make changes to your domain preferences.

Once you have added your domain to your registry you will need to login to your registry on the website of your domain registry. To join your domain, browse to the domain preferences and modify the domain's name servers, modify the domain's A record, or insert a CNAME record. Connection via name server: To use JimdoWebmail we suggest that you use name servers to establish a connection.

Modify the domain's available name servers: If you make this name server modification, your mail server will also be changed to Jimdos. Jimdo allows you to set up your own customized mail server if you want to be connected via name server but do not want to use Jimdo web mail. Please note: If you modify the name server of your domain, your e-mail account that you may be using with your domain will be deactivated.

Jimdo lets you set up new e-mail addresses with the same name. Establish connection via A entry: Modifying the A-Records ( IP address ) of your domain has no effect on those of your current domain related service. Linking via ARecords is a good choice if you want to use your domain with your Jimdo website, but want to keep using your domain via an outside hosting service such as e-mail account or subdomain.

In order to establish a connection via a record, modify record A of your domain to : Establish connection via CNAME record: The addition of a new CNAME record to your domain preferences does not affect your current service that you may be using with your domain. CNAME record connection is another good choice if you want to use your domain with your Jimdo website, but want to keep using your domain via an outside hosting service such as e-mail account or subdomain.

In order to establish a connection via the CNAME record, simply insert a new CNAME record that looks like this: Hint: If you reconnect via a record or CNAME record, make sure that your www domain points to your Root domain so that your website is accessible at www.yourdomain.com (with www) and yourdomain.com (without www). When you are not sure how to do this, ask your local registration agent to help you take this work.
