Creating a Website - Your Guide

These guidelines will help you get your first Jimdo website off the road. Customize your website with different options - modify font, color, etc. Jimdo has a number of tools to help you get up and running, such as our support center, tutorial videos, other guidelines, and blogs, if you have a question not covered in this book.

If you are in edit mode, you will see a side bar with choices on the right. "When you first registered for a Jimdo website, you were asked to select a style sheet. Don't be worried about your choice at this point, because you can modify your submission at any moment without loosing your job.

Your website templates define the fundamental look and feel of your website, so you don't have to rebuild every page from the ground up. Your templates determine, for example, the position of the logotype and headers, the side bar, the width of the contents area and much more. Regardless of which style sheet you select, you can always append and reorder your contents - or modify your font and color - but some parts of the style sheet stay the same.

Or in other words, there is no pure "restaurant" or "dentist" style sheet - you can use any style sheet! Keep in mind that the templates you select will be applied to every page of your website. When you are satisfied with the original you began with, continue and jump to the next section.

In order to see more templates available, login to your website and click on Design > Templates in your menus. You will see your most recent artwork on the sidebar to the right. Browse through the other document settings and if you see one you like, choose Preview. It shows you how your website will look with the new one.

Which is the right website to use? It can be difficult to choose a website as you need to imagine what your own website might look like in the new style. You can use Jimdo's Vorlagenfilter to organize the different types of documents according to their functions. Below are a few tips to help you make the right choices.

Once you have decided which items you want, it's easy to choose the right one. The choice of the right pattern can try a little. You can find more suggestions and suggestions for our support center in the section Support Center. The sample page also shows actual Jimdo sites and the patterns they use.

And now that you have a pattern you want to begin with, it's your turn to make it your own. Jimdo lets you use the Elements feature to create different types of blockage. Every Jimdo website begins with a few example pages that you can fill out - usually Home, About and Contact. The JimdoProand JimdoBusiness user can also copy pages. Select text, color, and other visually appealing choices in your styles editor. In order to access the Styles Editor, open your main window and select Design > Styles.

In Style mode, you will always see a toolbar at the top of your webpage. Here the different choices appear. To change the contents of your website, you must leave style mode by pressing the "X" in the top right hand corner conveniently.

Find the flip button Type by element in the top right hand edge of the Styles Editor. Then turn the button labeled Styl by Element back to the "on" setting. You can now design and customize single items. Just click where you want to start, and at the top of the page you'll see a menus with styles that show you what you can modify.

Note that when you modify the look of an item, it applies to all items of that look. If you want to modify, insert or move items, go back to edit mode by exiting the Styles Editor in the top right area. With over 600 font styles to select from, a million colours to select from, and a myriad of other customisation choices to try.

One good starting point is the Design section in our Support Center, where we have a videotape of how to use the Jimdo Style Editor. Next thing is to link your website to your own website so you can share it with the rest of the family.

The Jimdo Pro and Jimdo Business subscribers receive a free domainname contained in their subscriptions. Maybe you also have a previous bought and want to use one. Please note: If you are a Jimdo Free client, your website location will be displayed as yourwebsite.jimdofree.com. It is possible to link a user-defined domainname by updating to JimdoPro or JimdoBusiness.

If you select a new website for your website, you must select one that is not already assigned. Verify this with a free utility like Instant Domains Search. Once the name is available, you can upload it to your Jimdo website. Sign in to your Jimdo website and go to Preferences > Email and Domains > Domains.

Enter the name of the domainname you want to sign up in the field under "Additional domainname options" and then click "Add domain". You will then be redirected to a domainnameregistrationform. Within a few moments you will get an e-mail from us to the e-mail adress you have used. Please open the e-mail, verify your data and click on the verification button to verify the registry.

Briefly afterwards your domainname will be active. You can continue to use a Jimdo website if you have already acquired a Jimdo website through an outside host such as GoDaddy. You' ve got two choices here. So you can register your domainname with the initial host and just link it to your Jimdo website.

Or you can give the whole Jimdo domainname to Jimdo and we will keep it for you. If you keep your own domainname with your local registrar, please include it in your Jimdoccount. Preferences > E-mail and domain administration > Domains. Enter the name of the domainname you want to sign up in the field under "Additional domainname options" and then click "Add domain".

"" Please obey the instructions and verify that you are the holder of the registered name. Secondly, login to your registration page on the website of your registration company. Now open your domainsettings. Here we suggest that you connect your Jimdo domains with your nameserver. This way you can also use Jimdo with your Jimdo mailbox.

Keep in mind that if you use this approach, you will still need to keep your domains subscriptions up to date with your hosters. It' not gonna be part of your Jimdo deal. Please note: If you choose to keep your other domains such as e-mail separated, join your domains via A Record or CNAME record.

This option is available in the domainsettings of your hostedaccounts. Jimdo Upload Your Current Jimdo DomainWhen you upgrade your Jimdo to Jimdo, you don't have to spend your annual renewals fees on your JimdoPro or JimdoBusiness subscriptions; they are just part of your JimdoPro or JimdoBusiness subscriptions. Ensure that your domains are suitable for the transfers.

When your domainname fulfills these demands, great! 1 - Sign in to your Jimdo website and go to Preferences > Email and Domains Administration > Domains. Enter the name of the domainname you want to sign up in the field under "Additional domainname options" and then click "Add domain". "2- Next, login to your registration page on your website.

Go to your domains preferences and modify the name servers of your domain: 3 - Then you should ask your registered user to activate your domains and provide you with the Auth code. As soon as you have the Auth code, go back to your Jimdo site and go back to Preferences > Email and Domains Manager > Domains.

Next to the domainname you want to commit, click Connect Domains. 4 - Review the terms and condition for the assignment of your domainname and acknowledge that you agree to them. You will then be asked to input your authentication key and complete a registration request for your preferred name. 5 - Review your e-mail for a news item from do-not-reply@domain-robot.org.

Please click on the hyperlink in this news to validate your registration. 6 - Finally, you will get an e-mail from your top level registrar asking you to validate the transaction. Just click on the hyperlink you want to transmit and the transmission will begin. As soon as you have completed these procedures, your registration agent has 10 working day to perform the transmission, although it usually lasts 1-3 working day.

If the transmission is unsuccessful, we will e-mail you to let you know.
