Usually I use one small PO box per Domainname I own, and then use redirects for additional mailboxes. Your must also have your own domains hosted by them. This is not a big thing for me as I already use them as my registry. And I also like that I can "unsubscribe" from a mailing even if there is no cancellation address in an e-mail.
Quite openly, $70/year is a good amount of cash to spend if it means you don't have to be concerned about your e-mail failing. A number of other fee-based e-mail services exist (e.g. Fast Mail or Yahoo Small Business) as well as some free e-mail hosting services (Note - you get what you are paying for - if your company is dependent on e-mail, don't use a free e-mail host).
No matter what your circumstance is, there is an e-mail based hosted service that is suitable for you and does not include your web hosts.
