In order to differentiate themselves in a ocean of organised, clean web pages, some designer opt for more ecological, more conventional textures. Although it may seem jerky at first glance, many well-known companies integrate these aggressive design alternatives into their web pages, such as Bloomberg. Brutality arose as a response to the growing standardisation of web design and is often characterised by clear, asymmetric, non-conformist visualisations and a clear absence of order and hierarchies.
To put it another way, it's difficult to describe, but you know it when you see it - like the following example from clothing designers Biannual. A number of sites cut out pictures and distinctive navigational segments using a few simple words to provide information to the visitor about their business.
An increasing number of businesses are turning to designers and designers to produce custom illustration for their web sites. With years of shallow design and linear Minimalism, the addition of illustrative accents to your website is a great way to convey a little bit of character, as this enchanting example of NewActon (designed by Australia's ED digitally agency) shows.
A few design professionals who take classical Minimalism to the extremes, defy the convention of what a website should look like and display only the absolutely necessary things. Mathieu Boulet's website focuses on a few selected hyperlinks to his profile and information. This reduced, two-tone colour scheme looks stylish and modern, as in this example from Australian Design Radio.
Strange designs and forms are appearing more and more often on web sites and give a touch of atmosphere to a scenery that is otherwise characterised by shallow and physical design. MSDS, the design studios in Canada, uses bold, embossed characters on their homepage. Because of limited display resolutions and the general shortage of on-line type face assistance, web design professionals have for years relinquished the use of serial type faces to keep web sites readable and tidy.
The latest enhancements to 2018 make serious changes to the way serious typefaces look - and they never have. The following example by Neobi shows the caricature-like backdrop giving the straightforward design a spacious touch of character and lively colour. User-defined, hand-drawn typefaces have become increasingly important in recent years - and for good reasons.
All of these one-of-a-kind fonts give personality and appeal and help designer achieve an unmistakable look and feel without the need for full redesign. In your opinion, which web design trends will really prevail in 2018?
