The way you do things with words: Produce research and scientific documents with Microsoft Word. If you use a word processor such as Word, do not use the carriage return at the end of each line. Search for words or phrases within a specific article.

2.1 Why you should not press the return key at the end of each line

To those of you who have just arrived, this is one page in the Word Basic Concepts family. If you are using a type writer, you must use the Carriage Returns at the end of each line. The basic units of type writing are, if you like, a line.

Enter a line and then use the Carriage Returns. A basic entity in a Word file is a clause. If you use a word processing program such as Word, do not use the carriage returns at the end of each line. At the end of each section, press Return. Do not press the return button at the end of each line. At the end of each section, press Return once. It doesn't seem to say much more about the return button (except perhaps that it was formerly known as the return button, after the line breaks of typewriters).

You' d be amazed at how often your tech staff tell the tale about a new computer operator who is confronted with the announcement "Press any button to continue" searching the keypad for any button.
