The WordPress categories are a very handy way to organize your contributions.
Which is a category? Using Categories in WordPress
is one of the predefined WordPress cabonomies. If a website publishes contents on a wide range of subjects, it can subdivide its website into categories. For example, a newsgroup website may have categories for items that are stored in categories like Newsgroup, Opinion, Weather, Sports, etc. In case no categories are specified for a contribution, the contribution is stored in the standard categories as well.
A new WordPress install has the standard categorization 'Not categorized'. Website administrators can modify the standard categories via Settings " Write Screens. WordPress mail can be stored in several categories and can contain both categories and tag. In WordPress, you can generate a catagory while posting. You will see a Categories Metro User Box with a listing of available categories on the screens of the postal editors.
To submit your contribution in one of the categories, click on the checkbox next to the name of the respective one. Or you can make one by following the links + adding a new one. It is also possible to enter a categories directly on the Contributions " Categories page. Each time you generate a subcategory, you select a higher-level subcategory.
Enter a descriptive text for your categories and click the Add New Categories icon. Just the name of the categories is the necessary choice to make a categories, and you can bypass the slot, parents, and descriptions fields if you want. The Categories can be modified from the Contributions " Categories page. Hover your cursor over the categories you want to work on, and then click the Working links.
It opens the Notepad where you can modify the name, slash, insert or extract a superior class, modify or insert a name. It is also possible to erase categories from this display. Deletion does not erase any articles stored under it. Instead, if a posting is not moved to another catagory, WordPress would submit the posting below the standard catagory instead.
It' also important to know that you cannot remove a standard group. In order to remove a standard, you must first allocate the standard state to another categor. You can display categories in the side bar with the Categories Widget. Select Look " Didgets and move the Categories Widget to a side bar using dragging and dropping.
There will be a listing of all your categories in the side bar, with the exception of categories where no contributions are stored. It is also possible to create categories in the navigation menu of your website. Left-click Categories, choose Categories, and then click the Append to Menu icon. At the frontend of your WordPress website, each of the categories has its own page.
The most WordPress topics come with a theme named category.php, which manages the viewing of a categories archives page. The categories are a hierarchy of taxonomies, i.e. each of them can have subordinate categories. Normally, a subcategory is used for a subtopic under a wider theme. There can be a News/News website section with children categories for Local, National, Global, etc.
A subcategory can be added while you are posting or on the Categoriescreen. Simply choose a higher-level categorization when creating a new one and your new categorization becomes a subordinate one. In WordPress, categories and tag are predefined taxes. There are no limitations on use, and you can have as many categories as you want.
But in WordPress, categories are like wider parts of a website, while keywords are like tag. Occasionally you may want to modify your categories into tag or tag into category. In order to do this, go to Tools " Import and click Categories and Tag Converter.
