Getting back a broken WordPress plugin update
When you have been running a WordPress page for some period of your life, you know the drill... You are updating a WordPress plug-in and it leads to a new error. I' ll show you in this tutorial how to reset the annoying plug-in to an earlier version. Resetting the plug-in is a good way to restore your website from a back-up.
The first two attempts on this page, for example, only work if you have full control over your WordPress administration area. So if the plug-in upgrade has corrupted your website so that you cannot get through to the administration area, try the #3 instead. You can use this option if your WordPress.org plug-in is available for free and you can use your WordPress administration area.
Probably the simplest way to return to a prior version of a plug-in. This does not work for commercially available plug-ins that are not on WordPress.org. Installation of the plug-in "WP Rollback". Click "Reset" next to the plug-in you want to reset on your "Plugins" page: The WP-Rollback will show you all former version of the plug-in.
Choose the one you want to install: Press the "Rollback" pushbutton in the lower right hand side area. To continue, click "Rollback". The " Update plug-in " window appears. Please click on the Activate Plug-in link: As you can see, you are no longer using the latest version of the plugin:
You can use this technique for any plug-in, even for those who are not on WordPress.org. It only works if you can use your WordPress administration area. It is not as easy as method #1, but has several benefits. You should use this technique, for example, if you want to reset to an earlier version of an UpStream expansion or other premier plug-in.
Nearly in all cases your plug-in information will NOT be affected. In UpStream, for example, you must set an explicit checkbox to "Remove all installation information during installation? "However, it may be useful to contact the plug-in developers to see if your information remains in good order. First download a copy of the new file.
In the case of a business plug-in, you may need to go to the developer's website and sign in. UpStream enhancements, for example, are available on the "Your Downloads" page. Occasionally, you may need to consult the developers for earlier releases of the plug-in. You can go to your WordPress page and go to your "Plugins" page.
Then click "Deactivate" next to the plug-in you want to reset. Press "Delete" to delete the latest version of the plug-in. You can now click on "Add New" and download the new version of the plug-in. Installation of the plug-in is the same as for a standard one. You can use this technique for any plug-in, even for those who are not on WordPress.org.
You can also use it if you cannot use your WordPress administration area. First download a copy of the new data. In the case of a business plug-in, you may need to go to the developer's website and sign in. UpStream enhancements, for example, are available on the "Your Downloads" page.
Occasionally, you may need to consult the developers for previous releases of the plug-in. Unzip the file from the zipped directory. Login to the WordPress page using FTP. Go to the plug-in directory and remove all the plugins in it. Submit the new file you just downloaded.
Now you have overwritten all your recent data with the data from the earlier version.
